Learning Commons at the CBE
Today’s learners cannot imagine life without the internet and supporting technology. The concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.
School Literary Materials Selection
Related to Ministerial Order (#034/2025), Standards for the Selection, Availability, and Access of School Library Materials, CBE has published an administrative regulation AR3051: School Literary Materials Selection. Families and community members can request a review or reconsideration of a literary resource in a school's learning commons by completing the School Library Materials Reconsideration Challenge Request through their local school.
CBE also has an eLibrary online tool available to families, students and staff, which is an online catalogue for all CBE school libraries with detailed information on books, DVD’s and other resources that are available to borrow.
Additionally, parents and legal guardians are welcome to review classroom library collections by contacting your child's school.
About Our Learning Commons
We have a very welcoming environment conducive to study and enjoyable use of the Learning Commons. New furniture including whiteboard tables, flexible seating and tables that easily transform from small to large group learning spaces can be found throughout the Learning Commons. Teachers frequently use the alternative teaching spaces for large and small group work. We have desktop computers set up in the Learning Commons as well as laptops and iPads available. Our shelves have many fiction and non-fiction books for students and teachers to use. At Glenbrook School we are always working towards updating our material and growing our resources for the engagement and learning needs of our student.
Lending Rules
Each class has a designated book exchange each week. Students are permitted to sign out one book each at the discretion of the teacher. Students are responsible for the care and safe return of their books and our teachers decide whether books go home or not. A replacement cost will be charged for lost or damaged books.
Students and classrooms are welcome to use the Learning Commons as a quiet area for working and reading. The Learning Commons plays an important role in the learning process of students. Its resources include reference books, non-fiction books, fiction books and teacher resources.
