Dear Glenbrook Families,

As we roll into our final week of June, we are keeping busy as we prepare for the end of this school year while also finalizing plans for the upcoming school year. It is a time filled with reflection, celebration, and excitement for what lies ahead.

This week, we are especially proud to celebrate our Grade 6 students as they come to the end of their time at Glenbrook School. We will honour them at a special Farewell Ceremony as they are “ofish-ially” moving on to Grade 7. This milestone marks an important transition, and we look forward to recognizing their growth, achievements, and contributions to our school community.

In addition, our Grade 6 students will have the opportunity to enjoy a school dance dedicated just to them—a fun and memorable way to celebrate together before they move on to the next stage of their educational journey.

Thank you to our Parent Council for generously sponsoring cupcakes for the Grade 6 students to help make this celebration even more special. Your ongoing support is sincerely appreciated.

We look forward to a joyful and meaningful final week of this school year with our students and families.

With appreciation,
Cindy & Diana

Provincial Achievement Exams

In May and June of this year Grade 6 students across the province will participate in the Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) in English Language Arts and Literature (ELAL), Mathematics, and Science.  Grade 6 Social Studies PAT, based on optionally implemented new curriculum in the 2025-26 school year, will not be administered in 2025-26.

PAT results will be available and sent home to parents on JUNE 24.

Report Cards

As we approach the end of June, we look forward to sharing student report cards with families. This is an important time to celebrate the learning, growth, and accomplishments each child has achieved throughout the school year.  Report cards reflect not only academic progress, but also the development of skills such as perseverance, responsibility, and collaboration. We encourage families to take time together to review and celebrate these successes, recognizing the effort and commitment students have shown over the past months.

We are incredibly proud of all our students and the progress they have made. Thank you to our families for your ongoing support and partnership in your child’s learning journey.

Online Report Cards

Families can either view, download or print online report cards for kindergarten to Grade 12 students from June 25 – July 31 through their MyCBE account.  Online K-12 Report Cards Available June 25, 2026 - News Centre - CBE

Playground Build Update:

To make way for the new playground build, the playground has been shut down with fencing installed to keep the playground area safe for the community and students as the playground equipment is removed.  The playground has now been removed, and students and families should stay clear of the fencing.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.  We are looking forward to the new playground build in early July!

Staffing Updates

It is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to several of our staff members as we close out this school year.

Mrs. Verstraete has accepted a position with the Rocky View School Division, and Ms. Keil will be teaching Grade 1 at a new school within the Calgary Board of Education next year. Mr. White and Mrs. Abbasi will be returning to our substitute teacher list for the upcoming school year. We wish each of them every success as they take the next steps in their careers and hope to see them filing in for us on occasion as needed.

We would also like to extend our best wishes to Mrs. Barber, who will be beginning her maternity leave and will be away for the 2026–2027 school year. Mr. Lin will be here to fill in for Mrs. Barber teaching Kindergarten.  Ms. Brittany and Ms. Tarrah, who have been supporting our students as Educational Assistants, will not be with us on a daily basis next year, though we hope to see them back from time to time.

Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome new members and leadership opportunities within our team. Ms. Nefeli Kotopoulos and Mr. Matt Brosh will be stepping into Learning Leader roles. Ms. Kotopoulos will be teaching Grade 6, while Mr. Brosh will be serving as our Physical Education Specialist, teaching all PE classes. We will also be welcoming a third Learning Leader in late August to take on a Grade 1 class.

In addition, Glenbrook School has been allocated two additional teaching positions for the 2026–27 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant. We are pleased to welcome Ms. Sophia McPherson, who will be teaching Grade 2. We are also happy to share that Miss Castillon will be returning to Glenbrook School next year in a more permanent role.

Paint the Pavement:

Glenbrook School was fortunate to receive a grant through Activate YYC to paint the sidewalk and pavement out front of the school to mark the bus zone. Students in Grade 5 were given the opportunity to assist with the design, and the proposed design is a combination of their ideas.

Pavement painting will occur on Monday, June 29, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. We are looking for volunteers to make this project a success!

  • You can volunteer for a variety of jobs, from street prep, taping, painting, and clean up. Sign up for as many as you would like. Sign up through this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D4CACAA2BABFB6-64568254-paint
  • Students are also welcome to assist with this project! Include their names in the sign up link.
  • We will also be looking to borrow some push brooms and a leaf blower if possible to get the street clean before we begin.
  • If you are able to donate these tools, or if you have any questions, please email Mrs. Ashley Woods at aswoods@cbe.ab.ca
  • Thank you for helping to make this project a success!

Makerspace:

Glenbrook School was fortunate to receive a grant for Makerspace items through Education Matters. Makerspace refers to a collaborative, hands-on learning environment where students gather to create, invent, and tinker. We have purchased an abundance of loose parts, such as wooden blocks and figures, for students to create art and designs that are put back later for other students to use. We have also purchased tools like chomp saws, which are mini table saws suitable for cardboard that are student friendly. Glenbrook School is also excited to use this grant money to purchase a membership to the Reimagine Center for next school year, which houses a huge amount of loose parts that will rotate through our school so students are exposed to many new materials.

We are also looking for donations of consumable materials from families. These are materials such as those listed below that students use for a project that can't always be reused. Here are some ideas:

Paper & Cardboard

  • Crepe Paper
  • Origami or Scrapbook Paper
  • Recyclables: Upcycled cardboard, egg cartons, tissue rolls, etc.

Adhesives & Tapes

  • Mini Hot Glue Sticks
  • PVA Craft Glue (e.g. Mod Podge)
  • Washi Tape
  • Double-sided Tape & Glue Dots

Embellishments & Trimmings

  • Pipe Cleaners (Chenille Stems)
  • Pom Poms & Craft Fluffs
  • Sequins & Rhinestones
  • Ribbons & Twine
  • Googly Eyes

If you have any of these materials you would be willing to donate, we would appreciate your support! Items can be sent with your child and delivered to the office or Mrs. Woods. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Ashley Woods at aswoods@cbe.ab.ca

School Council Message:

Hello Glenbrook Families,

As we come to the end of the school year, Glenbrook Parent Council would like to thank our council members, meeting attenders, volunteers, families, staff, and teachers for your support throughout the year.

Parent Council is only possible because of the parents and guardians who give their time, energy, and resources to support our school. Your fundraising, volunteering, participation, and encouragement all make a difference for Glenbrook students and staff.

We would also like to thank Righteous Gelato for donating Sorbetto Bars for our end-of-year treat on the last day of school, and Glamorgan Bakery for supporting our Grade 6 Farewell. These contributions help us celebrate our students and mark the end of the year together.

We will need a few volunteers to help with our final Fun Lunch on Wednesday, June 24, as well as volunteers to help distribute the Sorbetto Bars on the last day of school. If you are available to help with either of these, please let us know at glenbrookpc@gmail.com.

A special thank you goes to Michelle Ibbotson for her persistent work with playground fundraising. It is exciting to see the progress that has been made. If you are able to help water the grass in August, please let Michelle know.  The playground build is scheduled for July 6.

Looking ahead to next year, we would welcome more parents and guardians into the work of Parent Council. We are currently in need of a Volunteer Coordinator and a Fundraising Coordinator to help our council continue to support the school community.

Our next Parent Council meeting will be on June 22 at 7:00 PM in the school Learning Commons. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Thank you again for your support this year. We wish all Glenbrook families a safe and restful summer.

Warmly,
Glenbrook Parent Council
