Hello Glenbrook Families!

February is a wonderful time to reflect on the power of empathy and the importance of working together as a team. This month offers us the chance to grow even closer as a school community, and to support each other in our shared mission of making a difference in our students' lives.

We want to take a moment to express my deep appreciation for the ongoing support and partnership you provide to our school community. This month offers a chance for us to focus on the importance of empathy, kindness, and working together for the well-being and success of our children. Students are focusing on how kindness matters and our Grade 5 & 6 classrooms are hosting an assembly on the 7 Sacred Teaching - Love.

With the Teachers' Convention just around the corner, our educators will be taking time to further develop their skills, learn new strategies, and bring fresh ideas back into the classroom. We are excited about the opportunities that will come from this time, and we are grateful to you for entrusting us with your children's education.

Let’s continue to support one another, celebrate each other's successes, and lift each other up during this month.

Stay warm and enjoy the weekend everyone,

Cindy & Tracey

Updates and Administrivia

TELUS Be Brave Event

Our school has the opportunity to send 18 Grade 4, 5, 6 students who show leadership at Glenbrook School to the Telus Be Brave Event on February 26. The Calgary Hitmen will host the Swift Current Broncos and their will be over 10,000 students in attendance to learn about the importance of acceptance and bullying prevention from guest speakers, concourse displays and in-game activities. Thank you to all of the students who have shared a letter and shown leadership at our school!

Staffing Update

At this time we would like to wish a thank you and farewell to Mrs. Giffin who has been with us on a temporary teaching contract. We wish Mrs. Giffin all the best in her future endeavours.  We would also like to welcome back Mrs. Jami Miskowski who will be taking her position as the Grade 1/2 teacher.

Dressing Appropriately for Winter Weather

Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for our coldest winter weather each day and send them to school with a winter jacket, snow pants, snow boots, mitts and hat. Students spend time outdoors each day, including at recess and at lunchtime. Often students tell us that a hoodie is appropriate to wear for this climate. We want all of our students to be safe and have fun while they are outdoors.

Bussing

Students who ride the bus should also be dressed appropriately. Please also ensure that the bus has arrived for pick up and that your child has a plan for if the bus does not arrive.

Please download the MyBusStop App for real time bus delays.  For more information bussing and the download link for MyBusStop please visit the CBE Transportation page:https://www.cbe.ab.ca/schools/busing-and-transportation/Pages/default.aspx

Scholastic Book Fair

We are excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place from Monday March 17 to Friday March 21.

The Scholastic Book Fair empowers our students to choose books they love, and with so many options, they’re sure to find themselves in the pages. This year’s Fair is going to be amazing, but we need volunteers to make it happen. We hope that you can offer your time to help... and since every purchase benefits our school, helping is twice as rewarding.

If you’re available to lend a hand at this upcoming event, please contact Raylene Montgomery, Library Assistant at ramontgomery@cbe.ab.ca.  Please share which shifts you are available for and how many you are able to do.

School Council Message

Meeting

Our next School Council meeting will be held on Monday, February 24 at 7:00 pm. As always, all parents and guardians are encouraged to attend.

Playground update

We will be applying for many grants and fundraising as much as we can to raise the $400,000 we will need to build our new playground. If you have any experience writing grants or know of any corporate donors who can contribute to the playground, please reach out!

Planning for next year

We need to plan for next year as our current chair will be leaving Glenbrook. We will need someone to take over the role of chair, as well as a fundraising coordinator and a fun lunch coordinator. If you would like to know more, please email glenbrookpc@gmail.com or join us for our next meeting.

Fun lunch

Our next fun lunch is Mucho Burrito on Thursday, February 20, 2025.  Parents/guardians must to https://healthyhunger.ca/ to purchase your child’s lunch by Saturday, February 15, 2025.  Students who have not purchased online will not be receiving a fun lunch.  If your student is not in attendance on the day of Fun Lunch you can call the school office to arrange for pick up or let the school know if they can donate the lunch.

All fun lunches for the school year are now set up on Healthy Hunger.  You can order one at a time, a few at a time, or for the whole year!

Volunteer Opportunity

We need a few parent volunteers for next month’s fun lunch. Please click the link to signup to help hand out lunches
