Hello Glenbrook Families!

During this winter season, as we turn to a new month, the streets and shops are filled with the hustle and bustle of the upcoming Christmas season. The season brings much joy and happiness, but can also be a time of worry and stress for some. This time is a spirit, a state of mind, a joyous feeling, and gifting should come straight from the heart and should be received with an open heart. The focus should be on gifting joy, love, and humor to your loved ones. All of these are ways that we show we care for others. At Glenbrook School we work with over 24 outside agencies to support our families and students. These agencies provide supports in many different ways and we are so grateful that we have these relationships with our community. In addition to these agencies, our wonderful School Parent Council cares for our students by providing them with opportunities such as field trips and in-school presentations. Without their focus on others and their care for others, we would not have these opportunities for our students. By showing they care about others in different ways, this will trickle down to our students as they show they care about one another daily. Our Grade 3 students and teachers hosted an assembly on respect last week. When students shared what respect means we see that "caring for the feelings of others through your actions" and "caring to consider how words and actions impact others". These messages were shared by students across the grades as they showed their understanding of respect as an act of caring. As we move forward may we all be mindful of what respect and caring look like.

Thank you for all you do,

Cindy & Tracey

Winter Weather Reminder

Living in Calgary means unpredictable weather! Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for winter weather each day and send them to school with a warm jacket, mitts and hat. Students spend time outdoors each day, including at recess and at lunchtime as long as the temperature is at or above -20 (with the wind chill).

Please also ensure that the bus has arrived for pick up and that your child has a plan for if the bus does not arrive.

Safe Driving and School Parking

As the weather gets colder please remember to follow traffic laws and drive safely around the school. Please park by the school field, not in front of the school during peak times in the morning and after school, as this is a bus zone. Parking is NOT allowed in the staff parking lot at any time, as all of the spots are reserved for staff. The staff parking lot is also not a drop off zone. As people are parking, it is not a safe place for students to be walking through the parking lot therefore we ask that you do not drop off or pick up in the school parking lot.

Please be aware of calling your child to cross the street at the end of the school day when picking up. Several students are running out, without looking and running between vehicles. This is unsafe. Children should look both ways when crossing the street and wait until it is safe to do so.

Staff Appreciation Holiday Lunch

We need your help to make this work!  Please sign up to bring an item for lunch, or you can send Parent Council an e-transfer to glenbrookpc@gmail.com and we can purchase items for you. School Council Meeting

Our next School Council meeting will be held on Thursday, January 23 at 7:00 PM. As always, all parents and guardians are encouraged to attend.

Fun Lunch

Our next fun lunch is Saucy Bread Company on Wednesday, December 18.  Parents/guardians must go to www.healthyhunger.ca to purchase your child’s lunch by Friday, Dec. 13.  Students who have not purchased online will not be receiving a fun lunch.  If your student is not in attendance on the day of Fun Lunch you can call the school office to arrange for pick up or let the school know if they can donate the lunch.

All fun lunches for the school year are now set up on Healthy Hunger.  You can order one at a time, a few at a time, or for the whole year!  Please note that December's fun lunch will be on the third Wednesday of the month (18) rather than the normal Thursday.
