Hello Glenbrook Families!
Welcome back to the New Year after a much needed winter break! January is a busy month as teachers return to prepare report cards for students and parents/guardians, engage in Alberta Education Student Learner Assessments (Grades Kinder – 3); and continue to work with our students on leadership. Students especially show signs of leadership when they intrinsically set their own goals beyond the ones set by the teacher. This is our continued work as our Glenbrook Grizzlies learn to value being a leader.
When a student is persevering and showing a true passion for the subject they are learning, that student will inspire others to believe that they, too, can (and should) strive for excellence. In short, hardworking student leaders inspire and push their classmates to do more. Students exemplify strong leadership skills when they want what is best for others and are willing to go out of their way to help their peers and communities. Students exhibit great leadership when they evaluate a given situation and come to a well-reasoned conclusion about the best course of action. Ultimately, good decision-making stems from a sense of responsibility, a good understanding of the problem, and the ability to think under pressure. If something goes wrong, student leaders do not pass the blame or make excuses but take responsibility for their part. Then, they learn from it, do what’s needed to correct what went wrong, and keep moving forward.
So what skills does a good, effective leader possess? Leaders can take many forms. There isn’t really a single definition that works in all instances of leadership, but in general, a leader is: goal oriented, positive, hardworking, in service of others, a good listener, a good decision-maker, a good communicator, encouraging and responsible.
We will continue to work with all of our Glenbrook Grizzlies to develop these skills and see themselves as leaders in our school and their larger world.
Have a wonderful weekend

Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten Registration opens for the 2025-2026 school year on January 13, 2025. To help interested parents/guardians prepare for registration time, we recommend reviewing the Kindergarten Registration Guide
Report Cards for Kindergarten
Please be reminded of the kindergarten reporting structure for the 2024-25 school year
- Kindergarten teachers will report progress to parents/legal guardians via January and June report cards.
- In January, progress in ELAL and Math will be communicated to parents/legal guardians via the report card.
- In June, progress in all discipline areas will be communicated to parents/legal guardians via the report card.
Telus Be Brave Event
- Our school has the opportunity to send 18 Grade 4, 5, 6 students who show leadership at Glenbrook School to the Telus Be Brave Event on February 26th. The Calgary Hitmen will host the Swift Current Broncos and their will be over 10, 000 students in attendance to learn about the importance of acceptance and bullying prevention from guest speakers, concourse displays and in-game activities.
- We will only have the 18 tickets (which include a t-shirt for the event) so interested Grade 5 and 6 students will need to submit a written letter to Mrs. Bombard and Mrs. Palmer explaining how they are a leader and are a positive role model at Glenbrook School. We would also like to know how they will use this event to continue to show leadership and have positive relationships at our school.
- These letters need to be submitted by Thursday, January 30, 2025 and we will read all of them over and choose the top 20. Successful students will be notified by Monday, February 3rd that they will be attending the event. The event will be during school hours on Wednesday, February 26th and a fieldtrip form will go home on February 3rd to the 18 students. Priority will go to students who did not go on the fieldtrip last year, but they are still welcome to submit a letter.
- Letters can be written at home or at school and students can bring them to the office when complete.
