Hello Glenbrook Families!
Lately I have been reminded of glimmers...these tiny glimpses of joy, things that catch our attention and re-direct us are always there, it is how we notice them and what we do about them that can make them so meaningful. I have been trying to pay attention to these little moments and take the joy from them. These can be an opportunity to celebrate and can sometimes be the thing that can turn your day around. There has been a re-surfacing of this idea of glimmers and that switch in mindset from triggers (things that can cause us to feel negative about something) to glimmers (opportunities to be open to something). Anytime we can have an opportunity to feel a spark of joy is amazing and can truly help us see the world around us differently.
It has been a busy two weeks back getting into the swing of things and we know how much there is to do in January. With report cards on the horizon and kindergarten registration we know many of you are also feeling the fast pace of January. We hope that there are many ways that you all can find the little moments to celebrate with your families.
Take time to find some glimmers this weekend
Have a wonderful weekend

Inspiration
“Glimmers...Glimmers are tiny micro moments of joy. These can be found in the tiniest of things – you can find them in those tiny everyday moments that you may not see if you are not looking for them. It could be a beautiful sunrise, the sparkle of a fresh snowfall, a child’s laugh, the sun streaming through a cloud on your way home from work. These small moments can make us smile, bring joy to our hearts, and create a feeling of sudden happiness that sticks. The new year is the perfect time to remember to look for the glimmers and let them lift you up.”

TELUS Be Brave Event
- Our school has the opportunity to send 18 Grade 4, 5, 6 students who show leadership at Glenbrook School to the Telus Be Brave Event on February 26. The Calgary Hitmen will host the Swift Current Broncos and their will be over 10, 000 students in attendance to learn about the importance of acceptance and bullying prevention from guest speakers, concourse displays and in-game activities.
- We will only have the 18 tickets (which include a t-shirt for the event) so interested Grade 5 and 6 students will need to submit a written letter to Mrs. Bombard and Mrs. Palmer explaining how they are a leader and are a positive role model at Glenbrook School. We would also like to know how they will use this event to continue to show leadership and have positive relationships at our school.
- These letters need to be submitted by Thursday, January 30, 2025 and we will read all of them over and choose the top 20. Successful students will be notified by Monday, February 3 that they will be attending the event. The event will be during school hours on Wednesday, February 26 and a fieldtrip form will go home on February 3rd to the 18 students. Priority will go to students who did not go on the fieldtrip last year, but they are still welcome to submit a letter.
- Letters can be written at home or at school and students can bring them to the office when complete.

School Council Message
Meeting
Our next School Council meeting will be held on Thursday, January 23 at 7:00 pm. As always, all parents and guardians are encouraged to attend. We will be hearing an update from the principal and will be discussing our playground build! We will be applying for many grants and fundraising as much as we can to raise the $400,000 we will need to build our new playground. Please join us to share your ideas and do your part to help out! We also need to plan for next year as our current chair will be leaving Glenbrook. We will need someone to take over the role of chair, as well as a fundraising coordinator and a fun lunch coordinator. These jobs are all done by the current Chair, but can be spread out amongst a few parents. Please consider getting involved!
Fun lunch
Our next fun lunch is Mucho Burrito on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Parents/guardians must to https://healthyhunger.ca/ to purchase your child’s lunch by Saturday, February 15, 2025. Students who have not purchased online will not be receiving a fun lunch. If your student is not in attendance on the day of Fun Lunch you can call the school office to arrange for pick up or let the school know if they can donate the lunch.
All fun lunches for the school year are now set up on Healthy Hunger. You can order one at a time, a few at a time, or for the whole year!
Volunteer Opportunity
We need a few parent volunteers for next month’s fun lunch. Please click the link to signup to help hand out lunches. Sign Up!
