Hello Glenbrook Families!

It is the last week of June, and we can hardly believe that we are here.  As we wrap up another wonderful school year, I want to take a moment to thank each of you for your incredible support, partnership, and dedication throughout the year. It has been a joy to watch our students grow, learn, and thrive in our school community.

This year has been filled with many memorable moments — from classroom achievements and creative projects to fun events and new friendships. Our teachers and staff have worked tirelessly to create a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment for all students, and your involvement has made a tremendous difference.

As we head into the summer break, I encourage you to continue nurturing your child’s curiosity and love for learning. Whether through reading, exploring nature, or simply spending quality time together, these moments are invaluable.

Thank you again for entrusting us with your children’s education. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the fall for another exciting year of growth and discovery.

Wishing your family a joyful, restful, and safe summer!

Warm regards,
Cindy & Tracey

Thank you!

To our wonderful School Council and Parent Society who have worked endlessly to ensure all our students have extra special events at Glenbrook School.  From organizing fun lunches, to paying for field trips, attending field trips, organizing the family dance, and bringing in special guests such as Alien In line Skating, Sound Creations and Rocks and Rings – they have made your child’s school year memorable.

A special thank you to Jane Leopatra, our School Council chair, who has worked endlessly to make these things happen. This is Jane’s last year with our school, and we wanted to extend our gratitude again and again.  This is Jane’s twelfth year of being a School Council member at Glenbrook School.

Playground Fundraiser

Glenbrook School is excited to announce that we have officially partnered with Parks Foundation Calgary to support our playground redevelopment project. They have generously contributed $50,000 to help us get started!

GlenbrookPlayGround

Playground Redevelopment Project

While this brings us closer to our financial goal of $400,000 to bring our playground vision to life, we still have a long way to go. As part of our partnership, Parks Foundation Calgary has created an online portal for supporters to donate to our project. They will provide official tax receipts that qualify for charitable tax credits.

Below is information on how supporters can make their donations. Please share this with your friends and family and let them know that every dollar contributed to our project brings us closer to our goal, which we hope to achieve by next summer.

  • 1. Visit:  Parks Foundation - School Projects
    • Untitled design (7).png
  • 2. Select: Glenbrook Parent Council Society - Playground Redevelopment
  • 3. Fill Out and Submit:
    • Complete the donation information, including a note that the funds are for the deposit. Please do not select the option to cover processing fees.
    • ** For larger gifts, Parks Foundation recommends using a cheque or offline credit card via Parks Foundation Calgary's Donation Form to avoid online processing fees.

Tax receipts are issued immediately for online donations of any amount and within 6 weeks for offline donations over $25. For more details, please see the Parks Foundation's Issuing Tax Receipts Policy, which also includes guidelines on in-kind gifts and third-party fundraising. Staff Leaving & Next School Year

It is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to several of our staff members this year as they will not be returning to us next school year.  We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

  • Ms. Allison Handelsman – moving to a System Learning Leader role
  • Mrs. Joanne Cudmore – moving to Mount View School
  • Mrs. Renata Hornich – moving to Janet Johnstone School
  • Mrs. Jami Miskowski – taking maternity leave for the school year
  • Ms. Dreanne White – moving to a new Lunchroom Supervisor position
  • Mrs. Nelina Abby – taking a maternity leave and not returning

In late August we will provide more information on class makeup and teachers due to our fluctuating enrolment.  There will be some straight grade classrooms and some multi-grade classrooms across the school.  Your child’s teacher will send you a welcome email, sharing where to meet them on the first day of school.

School Council Message

Meeting

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our council meeting last week. We got some great planning done for next school year. The first council meeting of next school year will also be our AGM, which will be held on Monday, September 15 at 7:00 pm.  School council meetings are more than just administrative gatherings—they’re a way for parents to make a tangible difference in the school environment and, ultimately, in their child’s educational experience, so we encourage all parents and guardians to attend. School Council plays a vital role in creating a thriving school community. To continue our work, we’re seeking enthusiastic parent volunteers to step into key roles: Vice Chair, Secretary, Volunteer Coordinator, Casino Coordinator, and Fundraising Coordinator.

If you’re passionate about supporting our school and want to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we can ensure another successful year for our students!

A Message from the Outgoing Parent Council Chair

As this school year comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has been a truly rewarding journey. Over the past 12 years, I’ve had the privilege of being part of the parent council while my three children made their way through this wonderful school. With my youngest now finishing Grade 6 and moving on to junior high, it’s time for me to step back.

Serving as chair of the parent council has been an incredible experience. I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside dedicated staff, supportive families, and passionate fellow council members — all united by a shared goal of helping our school community thrive. I’m so grateful for the friendships made, the lessons learned, and the chance to contribute to a place that has meant so much to my family.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged our work over the years. I leave knowing the council will continue to do amazing things with fresh ideas and new energy.

With appreciation,
Jane Leopatra

Casino Volunteers Needed

Our casino fundraiser is happening on Friday, November 7, and Saturday, November 8 at Cowboys Casino, and we need your help! There are several volunteer roles available, including banker, chip runner, count room, and cashier. No experience is required—our Casino Advisor and a team of three trainers will be there to guide and support us in our roles. Casinos generate over $60,000 for our school, making this fundraiser essential. All proceeds will go toward our playground rebuild project, so filling every position is crucial!

There are three shift options each day, and you’re welcome to sign up for multiple shifts or even volunteer on both days. However, if you do, you must remain in the same role throughout.

Fun lunch

Our last fun lunch of this school year is A&W on Thursday, June 19, 2025. Parents/guardians must go to Healthy Hunger to purchase your child’s lunch by Saturday, June 14, 2025.  Students who have not purchased online will not be receiving a fun lunch. If your student is not in attendance on the day of Fun Lunch you can call the school office to arrange for pick up or let the school know if they can donate the lunch

Volunteer Opportunity

Making fun lunches happen is a team effort, and we need your help! Volunteering to hand out lunches takes just one hour of your time, yet it makes a big difference for our students and staff. If you’re available, we’d love for you to join us in creating a smooth and enjoyable lunch experience. It’s a simple way to contribute and connect with our school community.
