Hello Glenbrook Families!

February is looking a little kinder today with the massive temperature swing in our favor this week and next. It is always a little easier to feel inspired and sprinkle kindness when we are not greeted with a negative 30 degree wind whipping us all day!

This week we recognized Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 26. This year’s theme is, “Let kindness grow”. It seems appropriate for us to be celebrating this, and this theme really connects with my messages this month and more importantly the work you are all doing in your classes each and every day. Pink Shirt Day is about cultivating a community of kindness and nurturing a sense of belonging. It can start with you, one word of kindness, an acknowledgement, a smile... each action we take has the potential to ripple well beyond ourselves. This truly does seem timely. We often talk about ‘anti-bullying’ but I prefer to talk about the alternatives to bullying such as kindness, respect for all, inclusion and understanding and positivity to name a few. When someone acts as a ‘bully’ they are seeking to take someone else’s power as their own, the reason to do this is because they themselves feel powerless. When we take time to sprinkle the glitter of kindness everywhere like we have been talking about, we have the chance as adults and children to help someone feel their power, to open possibilities and wrap them in caring. This is true power, being able to help someone find their space, their way and their inner power.

On Wednesday, we wore pink, not because someone told us to, but to show that we can all stand together with a common purpose to be kind, compassionate and show empathy to all those around us. We can help empower ourselves and others to make this amazing world even better, one gesture and one person at a time. Remember, ‘Awesome’ IS everywhere – you just need be open to seeing it and it will come to you.

Have an awesome weekend everyone

Where will you seek ‘Awesome’ and how will you spread it this week?

Updates and Administrivia

Dressing for Warmer Weather

Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the warmer weather.  Many students are not bringing any type of light jacket to school. Some students may need to bring extra pants and socks due to the melting snow on the playground. Students spend time outdoors each day, including at recess and at lunchtime. We want all of our students to be safe and have fun while they are outdoors.

Scholastic Book Fair

We are excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place from Monday March 17 to Friday March 21.

The Scholastic Book Fair empowers our students to choose books they love, and with so many options, they’re sure to find themselves in the pages. This year’s Fair is going to be amazing, but we need volunteers to make it happen. We hope that you can offer your time to help... and since every purchase benefits our school, helping is twice as rewarding.

If you’re available to lend a hand at this upcoming event please share which shifts you are available for and how many you can do.  You can sign up through Signup Genius Link here…

School Council Message

Meeting

Thank you to everyone who joined our School Council meeting this week. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 18 and will likely be held online via Microsoft Teams. We will keep everyone posted.

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to stay informed, ask questions, and share your thoughts about how we can continue to make our school an even better place for our children. We encourage all parents and guardians to attend, as your involvement plays a crucial role in shaping the direction of our school community. Your perspective and voice are invaluable, and we look forward to seeing you there! Please email glenbrookpc@gmail.com and we will send you the link to join!

Rebel Bean Coffee & Tea Fundraiser

Glenbrook Parent Council is excited to partner with Rebel Bean, a local roaster in Okotoks, for a coffee & tea fundraiser! This is an excellent opportunity to support our school and a fantastic local business! Orders can be made online until March 21 and will be delivered to students after spring break. IMPORTANT: When placing an online order, under "which fundraiser", you must Include "Glenbrook School - Student's Full Name – Homeroom. Fun Lunch

Our next fun lunch is HANKKi Korean Street Food on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Parents/guardians must go to https://healthyhunger.ca/ to purchase your child’s lunch by Saturday, March 15, 2025.  Students who have not purchased online will not be receiving a fun lunch.  If your student is not in attendance on the day of Fun Lunch you can call the school office to arrange for pick up or let the school know if they can donate the lunch.

All fun lunches for the school year are now set up on Healthy Hunger.  You can order one at a time, a few at a time, or for the whole year!
