Hello Glenbrook Families!

We are heading right into the second week of May, and it is hard to believe we are in May already. With just a few short weeks to go we still have LOTS of learning to do and so many things to celebrate before the end of the school year.

One thing I would like to celebrate is our amazing School Council and Parent Society members who meet monthly and make wonderful things happen for our students. Without their support, families would have many extra costs associated with field trips and in school learning opportunities.

This year the School Council and Parent Society have financially sponsored the following items for Glenbrook School:

  • PA speaker for gymnasium
  • Juro Stand and Smartboard technology for music classroom
  • Alien In-Line Skating
  • Sound Kreations Dance residency
  • Rocks & Rings Curling
  • Mary Lambert performance
  • Field trips including:
  • Teacher’s Pet in school learning Grade 1 - 6
  • Kindergarten Zoo field trip
  • The Confluence field trip Grade 1/2s

In addition to this they also organize fundraising such as the spring fling school dance, monthly fun lunches, popcorn and coffee bean sales, bottle drives and many other ways to be able to offer these events for our students. They are also working to organize the casino fundraiser and need volunteers to help as well as fundraising for our new playground structure.

Warm regards,

Cindy & Tracey

Weekly Wonder

What things will you put in place to help you ‘become’ as we head toward the end of the school year with only two months left?

Updates and Administrivia

Bussing and Transportation Changes for Next Year

For the 2025-26 school year, the CBE will be expanding yellow bus service and adjusting walk zones. This is in response to School Transportation Amendment Regulation for student transportation that comes into effect on Sept. 1, 2025. It is the provincial government's intent to increase the number of students who can access transportation by changing the transportation eligibility distance and how the distance is measured.

When changes are made to yellow bus transportation, it has an impact on bell times for schools. That’s because bell times are directly connected to transportation. Aligning bell times across schools makes transportation more efficient, allowing each bus to run multiple routes. This creates a reliable transportation system, ensuring students get to school safely, on time and ready to learn.

For the 2025 –2026 school year, the bell times at Glenbrook School will be Monday to Thursday 9:15 AM - 3:53 PM.  Friday early dismissal will be 12:53 PM

Kindergarten Open House - June 12 from 6:30 pm - 7:30 p.m.

We will be having a Welcome to Kindergarten evening where we will share an overview of our school year, activities that you can do over the summer to help support your child's transition to Kindergarten. We will also have activities set up for Kindergarten students to try out and we have Welcome to Kindergarten activity bags for each future Kindergarten child that attends

School Council Message

Meeting

Please join us on Thursday, May 22 at 7:00 pm for our next school council meeting. School council meetings are more than just administrative gatherings—they’re a way for parents to make a tangible difference in the school environment and, ultimately, in their child’s educational experience, so we encourage all parents and guardians to attend. We will be hearing an update from Principal Palmer and Assistant Principal Bombard, as well as discussing year end plans and our playground rebuild.

Volunteer Opportunity

Making fun lunches happen is a team effort, and we need your help! Volunteering to hand out lunches takes just one hour of your time, yet it makes a big difference for our students and staff. If you’re available, we’d love for you to join us in creating a smooth and enjoyable lunch experience. It’s a simple way to contribute and connect with our school community.

Fun Lunch

Our next fun lunch is A&W on Thursday, June 19, 2025. Parents/guardians must go to https://healthyhunger.ca/ to purchase your child’s lunch by Saturday, June 14, 2025.  Students who have not purchased online will not be receiving a fun lunch.  If your student is not in attendance on the day of Fun Lunch you can call the school office to arrange for pick up or let the school know if they can donate the lunch.

All fun lunches for the school year are now set up on Healthy Hunger.  You can order one at a time, a few at a time, or for the whole year.

Playground Rebuild Project Update

We have two parent volunteers working hard behind the scenes applying for grants and sponsorships to help us reach our goal of $400,000 to build our new playground. We have not secured any funding yet but are hopeful that we will be selected for a number of grants and sponsorships. If you know of any corporate sponsorship opportunities, please contact Michelle or Jane at glenbrookpc@gmail.com with the information. If you would like to help with grant writing or sponsorship applications, please feel free to reach out!

Bottle Drive

We will be holding a bottle drive in the school parking lot on Friday, May 23 from 12pm-3pm. Please drop off your empty bottles and cans to help us raise funds for our new playground! Thank you for your support

Amazon Teacher Wish List

Our teachers work tirelessly to provide the best education and care for our children, often going above and beyond to ensure their classrooms are inspiring and equipped for learning. To support their incredible efforts, Glenbrook Parent Council has created an Amazon wishlist featuring items that will directly benefit their classrooms.

It's easy to help! Simply visit the wishlist, select the items you'd like to contribute, and have them sent directly to the school. Your generosity will make a big difference in fostering a positive and resourceful learning environment for our students.

Thank you for supporting our wonderful teachers and the amazing work they do every day.

Planning for Next School Year: We Need Your Help!

Glenbrook School Council plays a vital role in creating a thriving school community, and we're already gearing up for the next school year! To continue our work, we’re seeking enthusiastic parent volunteers to step into key roles: Chair, Vice Chair, Fun Lunch Coordinator, and Fundraising Coordinator.

If you’re passionate about supporting our school and want to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we can ensure another successful year for our students!

For more information or to express interest, please contact Jane at glenbrookpc@gmail.com
