Hello Glenbrook Families!

As we look at the week ahead, we will take time to pause this week to reflect and remember. On Thursday, we hosted our Remembrance Day ceremony. Thank you to Mr. Kowalchuk and several students who have taken on this important work. We know that each year we recognize Remembrance Day, we are further and further removed from the major wars that we often associate Remembrance Day ceremonies with. However, our world is currently facing a lot of turmoil and many of our own Glenbrook families have been directly impacted by war and conflict. This provides us with a deeper context and brings a different type of meaning to our ‘Remembrance’ as many are worried about their families, concerned about what the future may hold and the deeper ideas of personal safety and wellbeing.

Peace is the hope we all hold in our hearts and the goal we reach for. Peace can have different meanings. Our personal stories and contexts impact how we see the world.

Friday, November 8 will be the first day of Fall Break for families. We hope you can take this time to have some family time and to connect and reflect. Enjoy the beautiful weather ahead and we look forward to your stories of adventure when students return on November 14, 2024.

Wishing you a rest filled Fall Break - enjoy everyone!

Take care,

Cindy

Updates and Administrivia

Footwear

Students are required to have two pairs of footwear at school each day. One of the pairs is for indoor use and the other for outdoor use. The indoor shoes should have non-marking soles that they could use in the Physical Education program. As snow, dirt and mud in our hallways and classrooms creates a safety hazard, we ask that outdoor footwear be removed at the students’ entrance. Platform shoes, roller shoes, flip-flops, soccer cleats, etc. are not acceptable for safety reasons.

Nutrition Reminder

Students should not be bringing candy for snacks and lunches - one treat is acceptable during lunchtime.

Meeting Information

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 20 at 7:00 PM. As always, all parents and guardians are encouraged to attend.

Fun lunch

Our next fun lunch is Papa John’s Pizza on Thursday, November 21.  Parents/guardians must go to www.healthyhunger.ca to purchase your child’s lunch by Saturday, November 16.  Students who have not purchased online will not be receiving a fun lunch.  If your student is not in attendance on the day of Fun Lunch you can call the school office to arrange for pick up or let the school know if they can donate the lunch.

All fun lunches for the school year are now set up on Healthy Hunger.  You can order one at a time, a few at a time, or for the whole year!  Please note that December's fun lunch will be on the third Wednesday of the month (18) rather than the normal Thursday.

Kernels

Please keep an eye out for Kernels popcorn fundraiser forms that went home with your students this past week!  Each snack size bag holds approximately 2.5 cups of popcorn and sells for $2.50.  The flavours available are: Buttersalt; Salt and Vinegar; White Cheddar; Dill Pickle; Thai Sweet Chili; Say Cheese Cheese; Jalapeno Jack; Cheesy Dill and Creamy Caramel.  Each bag is individually heat sealed and has a shelf life of 3 months.  These make great stocking stuffers!  Order forms will be due back on Friday, November 15.
