Hello Glenbrook Families!

As we return to school, we recognize that this moment carries a mix of emotions; disappointment, frustration, and sadness among them. These past weeks have been challenging, and we know many of you have felt the weight of uncertainty and concern.

Throughout it all, our staff have stood strong, advocating for what matters most: your children, their learning environments, and each other. Their voices, persistence, and passion wanted to make a difference even if the impact isn’t immediately visible.

The efforts to build safer, more supportive, and more equitable schools are ongoing and deeply meaningful. Despite the exhaustion, our educators continue to show up with unwavering commitment to students; it’s what keeps this profession alive.

As we step back into classrooms this week, we do so with renewed purpose and a deep sense of community. While we may not have seen the changes we hoped for, we are reminded of the strength we find in each other; in our staff, our students, and in you, our families. We will reconnect, refocus, and rebuild to move forward in a positive way.

The support we’ve received from parents, friends, other provinces, and countless others who believe in public education has been powerful. The majority of the public stands with us, and that solidarity matters.

Together, we will continue to create moments of joy, belonging, and learning. Thank you for your continued support, your trust, and your belief in the importance of education.

We’re grateful to walk this journey with you.

Warmly,

Cindy & Tracey

Busing and Transportation

Bus stop information is now available in your MyCBE account. Busing is not managed at the school level. If you have any questions related to bussing, you should contact the CBE Transportation department via email at transportation@cbe.ab.ca.

Transportation Safety Messages 2025-26

Drivers:

  • Be patient, even when you are running late. Take time to make safe and smart decisions.
  • Obey the posted speed limit and drive cautiously when children are present.
  • Watch for school buses. They have big blind spots, poor manoeuvrability and need lots of space to move.
  • Scan for pedestrians between parked vehicles as pedestrians may step out unexpectedly.
  • Do not enter school bus loading zones, stop or park in designated zones only so buses can safely pull into their designated space.
  • Avoid making U-turns in a playground zone or near crosswalks.
  • Always obey school safety patrols.
  • Pedestrians have the right of way at all intersections and crosswalks (unless controlled by traffic signal/device or as directed by a police officer).
  • Watch for pedestrian activated signals (flashers), a pedestrian may be using the crosswalk.
  • Do not double park to drop-off/pick-up students. This puts the students at risk as they get in and out of the vehicle in the traffic lane.
  • Stop for pedestrians crossing at all marked and unmarked crosswalks and intersections.
  • Stay alert and focused. Do not drive distracted, that means no talking/texting on a phone.
  • Never pass a vehicle at a crosswalk or in a playground zone.
  • Never stop or park within 5 m (one car length) of a crosswalk, intersection or stop sign. This will allow pedestrians to be seen as they step off the curb.
  • Turn with caution and always watch out for people crossing the street.
  • If possible, drive with students on the passenger side in the vehicle. This will allow passengers to get out of the vehicle on the sidewalk rather than into traffic.
  • Ways to avoid the congestion around the school:
  • Drop-off/pick-up further away and walk to school
  • Take advantage of early drop-off
  • Carpool with friends and neighbors
  • Walk, ride a bicycle or scooter/skateboard to school
  • Use the school bus transportation service.

(According to the National Collision Database, school buses are the safest means of transporting to and from school. As of 2018, students are about 80 times more likely to get to school safely on a school bus than by car.)

Pedestrians:

  • Do not jaywalk or cross the street from between parked vehicles, especially buses.
  • Only cross the street at a safe spot, such as a corner or intersection.
  • Watch for turning vehicles and traffic that may not see you.
  • Look all directions before crossing.
  • Make eye contact with drivers before you begin crossing the street.
  • Stay alert and focused (do not text/talk on your phone, listen to headphones) while crossing the street.
  • Be visible, walk as a group and wear brighter clothing.

Please ensure that you have updated your contact information on the Demographic Verification form in your MyCBE account if there has been any change in phone number, email address, physical address or pick up contacts. The school is unable to change these via an email only.

Reminders

Footwear - Students must have two pairs of footwear at school each day.  One of the pairs is for indoor use and the other for outdoor use. The indoor shoes should have non-marking soles that they could use in the Physical Education program. As snow, dirt and mud in our hallways and classrooms create a safety hazard, we ask that outdoor footwear be removed at the students’ entrance. Platform shoes, roller shoes, flip-flops, and soccer cleats, etc. are not acceptable for safety reasons as well as maintaining school cleanliness.

Our first lunch date is Wednesday, November 26, 2025 from Subway. Order cut off date is Friday, November 21.

Casino

Our casino fundraiser is happening on Friday, November 7, and Saturday, November 8 at Cowboys Casino, and we need your help! There are several volunteer roles available, including banker, chip runner, count room, and cashier. No experience is required—our Casino Advisor and a team of three trainers will be there to guide and support us in our roles. Casinos generate over $60,000 for our school, making this fundraiser essential. All proceeds will go toward our playground rebuild project, so filling every position is crucial!

There are three shift options each day, and you’re welcome to sign up for multiple shifts or even volunteer on both days. However, if you do, you must remain in the same role throughout. Sign Up.
