Hello Glenbrook Families,

This week is Bullying Prevention Week. There are many ways in which we can support positive behaviors and create safe and caring environments for our students and children. The theme for this month is ‘Choose Respect’. We often share sentiments such as, ‘treat others the way you want to be treated’, or ‘do unto others as you would have done to you”. Respect is a choice. We can find many ways throughout the day where we interact with each other, from saying good morning, to hello as you pass someone on the street. There are little things that can turn out to be the light in someone’s day. I always say, you never know what someone is going through until you have a chance to sit down and listen to their story. In the hustle and bustle of the day it can be hard to take that time. You never know what impact you can have on another person. Words have power, they can set the tone of a conversation, inspire someone to make a change or send them on a bad path. It is easy to forget the power we hold in our words, and this is one of the most important lessons we can teach our students as educators. We have the opportunity each day to be the change and to inspire. We are all busy, it can be hard, it takes effort, and it takes practice to connect with others. Remembering your impact on others can be empowering and can empower others as well. Respect can be broken much more quickly than it can be gained. Take the time to listen, connect with someone’s story and be the inspiration as often as possible. Help foster a culture of respect and support. This month’s Seven Sacred Teaching focuses on respect, celebrated with an assembly hosted by the Grade 3 classrooms.

Wishing you an inspiring weekend everyone!

Inspiration

“Your words have power. Use them to spread kindness and inspire others. Respect is earned.”

Weekly Wonder

How will you spread kindness, inspire others and most importantly, find ways to respect others and earn respect?

Staffing Announcements

We would like to inform parents of a couple staffing changes.

We are fortunate enough to be able to add a teaching position to our team to support our English as Additional Language Learners. Mrs. Finki Lombard will be moving into this position for the remainder of the school year.  Please join me in welcoming Babley Sidhu to Glenbrook School as the new Grade 5/6 teacher taking over Mrs. Lombard’s classroom. Mrs. Sidhu comes to us from Dr. Oakley School and has experience teaching Division 2 and will be a great addition to our Division 2 team.

We are also sad to share that Mrs. O’Shea, one of our wonderful Education Assistants, will be moving on to Braeside School in December. We are sad to see her go and wish her all the best in her new position.

Winter Weather Reminder

Living in Calgary means unpredictable weather! Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for winter weather each day and send them to school with a warm jacket, mitts and hat. Students spend time outdoors each day, including at recess and at lunchtime as long as the temperature is at or above -20 (with the wind chill).   Please also ensure that the bus has arrived for pick up and that your child has a plan for if the bus does not arrive.

Safe Driving and School Parking

As the weather gets colder please remember to follow traffic laws and drive safely around the school. Please park by the school field, not in front of the school during peak times in the morning and after school, as this is a bus zone. Parking is NOT allowed in the staff parking lot at any time, as all of the spots are reserved for staff.  The staff parking lot is also not a drop off zone.  As people are parking, it is not a safe place for students to be walking through the parking lot therefore we ask that you do not drop off or pick up in the school parking lot.

Please be aware of calling your child to cross the street at the end of the school day when picking up.  Several students are running out, without looking and running between vehicles. This is unsafe. Children should look both ways when crossing the street and wait until it is safe to do so.

Playground Committee

Exciting things are happening! Our playground redevelopment project is in the making, with plans to transform our play space in 2026. We’re looking for passionate and creative individuals to join our playground committee and help bring this vision to life. If you’re interested in making a lasting impact in our community, we’d love to hear from you!
