Weekly Wonder
When we work together, we know that we can do more, be better and learn along the way. There are many ways as a school community that we can work together to find this strength and make strides together. How will you find ways to join in and work together with our school community to ‘go farther together’? How will you take time to actively invite someone into your circle? What will you need to do this?
Education Matters Grant
We are pleased to share that we are the recipients of an Education Matters Grant in the amount of $2914.00. The grant dollars are for sensory items within the school and will be used for items such as rocking chairs, wobbly stools, and sensory pathways.
Our School Council has also assisted us with money to create sensory bins for each classroom. The sensory bins contain items to assist students with regulation and focus. We are so lucky to have the support of our parents to ensure our students have what they need.
Glenbrook School Digital Citizenship Plan 2023-2024
Digital Citizenship is defined as having the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to demonstrate responsible and respectful behaviour when using technology or participating in digital environments.
All CBE Schools are required to update or create Digital Citizenship plans on a yearly basis. Schools use system supports to write a Digital Citizenship Plan that is unique to their own demographics and aligned with student and community needs.
Looking at some of our student survey data provided some context as we developed our plan for the year:
- Students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 in our Alberta Education Assurance Survey reported that 97% feel that they are careful about what they share online. However, many students
- 45% of Glenbrook students in Grade 4, 5, 6 students said that they can trust information that they see online and 55% of students said that they do not trust what they read online.
- 92% of our students said that they feel confident that they have the skills needed when working with technology.
Our digital citizenship plan will include planning lessons and learning activities which focus around three main goals:
- Students will understand the importance of protecting personal information online and apply appropriate strategies.
- Students will identify and use accurate information when researching online.
- Students will develop skills using digital tools to support and enhance learning.
The full Digital Citizenship Plan is available on our school website Digital Citizenship page.
School Development Plan Update
Alberta Education requires each school to create a plan to improve student learning. The School Development Plan aligns individual school goals with the identified goals in CBE Education Plan | 2021-2024. Each year, schools capture evidence of continuous improvement towards the goals set. In accordance with Alberta Education’s Requirements for School Authority Planning and Results Reporting, schools then provide assurance to school communities by communicating student growth and achievement in an annual report that demonstrates improvement results and next steps. These results support continuous improvement of the quality and effectiveness of education programs provided to students while also improving student learning and achievement (Funding Manual for School Authorities 2023-24 School Year p. 167).
CBE’s Education Plan prioritizes creating strong student achievement and well-being for lifelong success with the following key outcomes:
Excellence in literacy
- Excellence in mathematics
- Improved achievement and well-being for students who self-identify as Indigenous
- Access to learning opportunities and supports that address diverse learning needs and well-being
Three specific priority areas based on CBE system data that inform the Education Plan and system actions for improvement across the organization have been identified.
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Well-Being
Our School focused on improving:
- Reading comprehension
- Number fluency through mathematical discourse
- Resiliency and emotional regulation when encountering challenges
The School Results Report and School Development Plan will be posted on our school website on November 30, 2023.
Veteran’s Food Bank Boxes
Students and families are asked to donate non-perishable food items for the Veteran’s Food Bank. Please drop off any non-perishable donations in the boxes outside the office in the brown boxes. Please speak to your children about why this is an important act.
A list of items required by the Food Bank can be found on the Veterans Food Bank of Alberta.
Food Security for our Veterans - to strive to restore dignity to all who use the service and assistance is not pre-defined. Clients are able to shop for themselves to ensure they receive exactly what they need, and enough to cover 10-14 days of food for their situation.
Clients can, in discussions with food bank volunteers, shop as one would in a store. This allows clients to select specific items for themselves and their families. This is prudent if you are a diabetic or have gluten-free requirements

Thank you to everyone who ordered Kernels Popcorn! Popcorn is expected to be sent home with students on Thursday, November 16.
