Glenbrook Growler Sept. 25-29 | Truth & Reconciliation, School Council, Volunteer, Parking

Our Week at a Glance email is sent out once a week with the intent to provide you with the most up to date information with what is happening at Glenbrook School.

Our stories bring us together. “All that we are is story. From the moment we are born to the time we continue on our spirit journey, we are involved in the creation of the story of our time here. It is

what we arrive with. It is all we leave behind.” – Wagamese

What does it mean to belong? At Glenbrook School we all belong to one community. We work to connect student learning with their personal stories and histories. We work to foster an understanding of the interconnectedness of all things and the importance of balance in their learning.

One way we are doing this is through learning about the Seven Sacred Teachings. Each month, students will focus on learning about one of the seven teachings. During the month of September, students learned about respect through the buffalo. The buffalo represents respect of the earth and all living creatures. Respect is earned when you share and give of yourself.

Respect your elders.

Treaty 7 Day - Treaty 7 week falls between September 18th and 22nd. This week commemorates the signing of Treaty 7 on September 22, 1877 between the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Stoney-Nakoda, and Tsuut'ina Nations and the Canadian Government.

Orange Shirt Day - September 28, 2023. The Leadership club will be putting together some things to support Orange Shirt Day.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - September 30, 2023

We will be doing a Downie Wenjack Walk with our classes during the week of October 12-22

If you sign up for backup, you will only be called if someone can't make their scheduled shift. Casinos can bring in upwards of $70000 for our students! This is a really fun and easy way to contribute. Meals and snacks are provided and there is free underground parking. Taxi rides to and from the casino will be provided for those who need a ride. Parking in Back Alley

We have had some concerns shared from a homeowner in the Glenbrook community about parking in the back alleys. They have experienced an ongoing issue with visitors to the school parking illegally, excessive traffic, blocking garages and access into the alleyways. The homeowner communicated that calls will be made to Calgary Parking Authority should these problems continue to be experienced.

Please find below or attached a map of the area around Glenbrook School. You will see the alleyways marked in red as well as the school parking lot. These are no parking zones. Please ensure that you do not park, stop, drop off or pick up in these areas.

Parking is permitted on Glenpatrick Drive SW, 33 Avenue SW and 35 Avenue SW.
