Hello Glenbrook Families!
This week when we were driving to work, we noticed the sky getting lighter and lighter each morning. Yesterday, as the students arrived, we were greeted with the first glimmer of sunrise that we have seen for a long time. This beautiful deep pink began to highlight the silhouette of the clouds and spread across the sky like a warm hug embracing all the other dark clouds. It was a renewal and a sign of things to come as our days get longer and we can see the beginnings of spring and brighter days ahead. Like the glimmers, these moments can help us define our day. The pink in the sky can be a memory to come back to, an interruption in the start of the day and an opportunity for a discussion to draw other’s attention to. I am always struck by the beautiful skies we have here, and I wonder who else noticed, did they see the same colours, were they able to appreciate it or take a moment to be inspired by it? We hope you too will have the opportunity to notice and to enjoy, maybe it can even set your day on a new course. Moving from the darkness of winter to the glimmers of spring definitely made a difference for us.
Wishing you a weekend filled with sunrise happiness.
Cindy & Tracey

Updates and Administrivia
Report cards summarize and communicate student achievement at a point in time. In addition to the report card, schools communicate with parents/guardians about student progress on an ongoing basis in a variety of ways.

As a school and broader system, we are constantly working towards calibrating our assessment and our reporting processes. You may notice that we have moved to a slightly different format this year with our report card comments. We have included specific information, as always, using our 1 - 4 indicator scale for all subject areas. We have also included comments including proficiency descriptors, level of understanding as demonstrated in each stem or outcome along with actions that can help to deepen understanding and success criteria to show where we will be supporting students ongoing growth and improvement. We continue to include ‘Areas of Strength’ as well as ‘Areas for Growth’. This year you will find comments aligning with the indicators directly after each subject that they are connected to. We hope that this will provide alignment with indicators and the connected comments
Report Cards are available online beginning Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, through your MyCBE account. Just a reminder that schools no longer print report cards.

Teachers in Kindergarten to Grade 3 have been working on the Alberta Education Provincial Assessments for literacy and numeracy. Teachers have been working individually with students to complete assessments. Teachers work with students on a variety of assessments throughout the year and use multiple ways of providing feedback and working with students using a wide body of evidence over the course of the year to assess where students are in their learning progressions.

School Council Message
Meeting
Thank you to everyone who came out for our council meeting this week. We heard an update from Mrs. Palmer and Mrs. Bombard, discussed next steps for our playground committee, and upcoming fundraisers.
Our next School Council meeting will be held on Monday, February 24 at 7:00 pm. As always, all parents and guardians are encouraged to attend.
Playground update
We will be applying for many grants and fundraising as much as we can to raise the $400,000 we will need to build our new playground. If you have any experience writing grants or know of any corporate donors who can contribute to the playground, please reach out!
Planning for next year
We need to plan for next year as our current chair will be leaving Glenbrook. We will need someone to take over the role of chair, as well as a fundraising coordinator and a fun lunch coordinator. If you would like to know more, please email glenbrookpc@gmail.com or join us for our next meeting.
Fun lunch
Our next fun lunch is Mucho Burrito on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Parents/guardians must to https://healthyhunger.ca/ to purchase your child’s lunch by Saturday, February 15, 2025. Students who have not purchased online will not be receiving a fun lunch. If your student is not in attendance on the day of Fun Lunch you can call the school office to arrange for pick up or let the school know if they can donate the lunch.
All fun lunches for the school year are now set up on Healthy Hunger. You can order one at a time, a few at a time, or for the whole year!
Volunteer Opportunity
We need a few parent volunteers for next month’s fun lunch. Please click the link to signup to help hand out lunches
