Grade 3 students will continue to learn how to calculate the perimeter of a square, triangle and rectangle. Perimeter is calculated by adding all the sides.

Next, we will start our Geometry unit. We will be learning about the geometric attributes of 2 D shapes. Grade 3s will also learn about 90 degree angles in shapes and how to make transformations of a shape include translations, rotations and reflections.

English Language Arts- We are working on figurative language and poetry unit. We are also continuing our guided reading using decodable books, our writing skills in daily journal writing, and using the sound wall/word wall to develop our spelling skills. Students are working really hard in their RTI groups to develop their reading skills as well.

Social Studies

Gr. 3 They are studying Tunisia. We will be looking at quality of life in that country (access to education, types of homes, etc). We will look at where the country is located in compared to Canada on a map.
Gr. 2 They are studying the Prairies. We will look at the quality of life living in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Both grades are also reading current events to learn about local affairs and news that is happening in Calgary and across Canada.

Science

Gr. 2 And Gr. 3

Students will be investigating the scientific method with gardening. In our garden, students have grown a variety of plants, such as sunflowers, wild flowers, peas, and pumpkins. Students have learnt the steps of the scientific method: create a question, make an hypothesis, create the steps to an experiment, record our observations, and draw a conclusion. Students will continue to develop their scientific method by continuing to observe the next few weeks. If your student would like to review the scientific method or plants, please see Google Classroom. Students will also continue to investigate the growth and development of plants and animals and how they interact in their environment.

Art- We will be continuing our Famous Artist unit. Some artists we will be studying will be Andy Warhol, Ted Harrison, Jason Carter, among others.

P.E. and Health- In P.E, students did great in our volleyball unit. Students will work on badminton skills and fitness skills. Hopefully we can enjoy some nicer weather to do fitness outside! In Health, students are learning how our actions have an effect on others and how we can fill the emotional "bucket" of others. Please check Google Classroom.
