Dear Glenbrook Families,
We are pleased to inform you that our school has been allocated two additional teaching position(s) for the 2026–27 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant.
This grant funds teaching positions that support improved learning conditions in kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms. This funding is specifically intended to help reduce class sizes in core subject areas (English Language Arts/French Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies), with priority given to schools experiencing the greatest class size pressures.
This decision was made using system-wide data that considers:
- The number of classes exceeding provincial class size benchmarks
- Projected enrolment and class organization
- School programming and grade configuration
- Our goal is to ensure students benefit from:
- Increased teacher attention
- Improved classroom learning environments
- Greater support for diverse learning needs
We remain committed to supporting strong learning environments for all students and using our resources thoughtfully and strategically.
We will update you once all staffing is finalized to share the names of new staff
With appreciation,
Cindy & Diana
Provincial Achievement Exams
In May and June of this year Grade 6 students across the province will participate in the Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) in English Language Arts and Literature (ELAL), Mathematics, and Science. Grade 6 Social Studies PAT, based on optionally implemented new curriculum in the 2025-26 school year, will not be administered in 2025-26.
Please ensure that you check updates from your child’s teacher on the classroom’s google classroom and our school website. The next PAT will be written on Monday, June 15.
Online Report Cards
Families can either view, download or print online report cards for kindergarten to Grade 12 students from June 25 – July 31 through their MyCBE account. Online K-12 Report Cards Available June 25, 2026 - News Centre - CBE
Playground Build Update:
To make way for the new playground build, the playground has been shut down with fencing installed to keep the playground area safe for the community and students as the playground equipment is removed. The playground is now being removed, and students and families should stay clear of the fencing. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We are looking forward to the new playground build in the fall!!
Paint the Pavement:
Glenbrook School was fortunate to receive a grant through Activate YYC to paint the sidewalk and pavement out front of the school to mark the bus zone. Students in Grade 5 were given the opportunity to assist with the design, and the proposed design is a combination of their ideas.
Pavement painting will occur on Monday, June 29, from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. We are looking for volunteers to make this project a success!
A sign-up link will be emailed to families next week. You can volunteer for a whole day or part of the day. Students are also welcome to assist with this project! We will also be looking to borrow some push brooms and a leaf blower if possible, to get the street clean before we begin. If you can donate these tools, or if you have any questions, please email Mrs. Ashley Woods at aswoods@cbe.ab.ca.
Makerspace:
Glenbrook School was fortunate to receive a grant for Makerspace items through Education Matters. Makerspace refers to a collaborative, hands-on learning environment where students gather to create, invent, and tinker. We have purchased an abundance of loose parts, such as wooden blocks and figures, for students to create art and designs that are put back later for other students to use. We have also purchased tools like chomp saws, which are mini table saws suitable for cardboard that are student friendly. Glenbrook School is also excited to use this grant money to purchase a membership to the Reimagine Center for next school year, which houses a huge amount of loose parts that will rotate through our school so students are exposed to many new materials.
We are also looking for donations of consumable materials from families. These are materials such as those listed below that students use for a project that can't always be reused. Here are some ideas:
Paper & Cardboard
- Crepe Paper
- Origami or Scrapbook Paper
- Recyclables: Upcycled cardboard, egg cartons, tissue rolls, etc.
Adhesives & Tapes
- Mini Hot Glue Sticks
- PVA Craft Glue (e.g. Mod Podge)
- Washi Tape
- Double-sided Tape & Glue Dots
Embellishments & Trimmings
- Pipe Cleaners (Chenille Stems)
- Pom Poms & Craft Fluffs
- Sequins & Rhinestones
- Ribbons & Twine
- Googly Eyes
If you have any of these materials you would be willing to donate, we would appreciate your support! Items can be sent with your child and delivered to the office or Mrs. Woods. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Ashley Woods at aswoods@cbe.ab.ca.
