Grizzly Spirit Week June 2026

With appreciation,

Provincial Achievement Exams

In May and June of this year Grade 6 students across the province will participate in the Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) in English Language Arts and Literature (ELAL), Mathematics, and Science.  Grade 6 Social Studies PAT, based on optionally implemented new curriculum in the 2025-26 school year, will not be administered in 2025-26.

Results from these tests will provide Alberta Education, school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, students, and the public with information about what students know and can do in relation to provincial standards at the end of Grade 6. These results can be used to improve learning opportunities for students.

Please ensure that you check updates from your child’s teacher on the classroom’s google classroom and our school website.  The next PAT will be written on Thursday, June 4.

Playground Build Update:

To make way for the new playground build, the playground will be shut down very soon.  There will be fencing installed to keep the playground area safe for the community and students as the playground equipment is removed.  This is scheduled to take place beginning June 3.  That means the playground will be off limits and students and families should stay clear of the fencing.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Paint the Pavement:

Glenbrook Paint Pavement

Glenbrook School was fortunate to receive a grant through Activate YYC to paint the sidewalk and pavement out front of the school to mark the bus zone. Students in Grade 5 were given the opportunity to assist with the design, and the proposed design is a combination of their ideas.

Pavement painting will occur on Monday, June 29, from 8am-4pm. We are looking for volunteers to make this project a success!

A sign-up link will be emailed to families next week. You can volunteer for a whole day or part of the day. Students are also welcome to assist with this project! We will also be looking to borrow some push brooms and a leaf blower if possible to get the street clean before we begin. If you are able to donate these tools, or if you have any questions, please email Mrs. Ashley Woods at aswoods@cbe.ab.ca

Makerspace:

Glenbrook School was fortunate to receive a grant for Makerspace items through Education Matters. Makerspace refers to a collaborative, hands-on learning environment where students gather to create, invent, and tinker. We have purchased an abundance of loose parts, such as wooden blocks and figures, for students to create art and designs that are put back later for other students to use. We have also purchased tools like chomp saws, which are mini table saws suitable for cardboard that are student friendly. Glenbrook School is also excited to use this grant money to purchase a membership to the Reimagine Center for next school year, which houses a huge amount of loose parts that will rotate through our school so students are exposed to many new materials.

We are also looking for donations of consumable materials from families. These are materials such as those listed below that students use for a project that can't always be reused. Here are some ideas:

Paper & Cardboard

  • Crepe Paper
  • Origami or Scrapbook Paper
  • Recyclables: Upcycled cardboard, egg cartons, tissue rolls, etc.

Adhesives & Tapes

  • Mini Hot Glue Sticks
  • PVA Craft Glue (e.g. Mod Podge)
  • Washi Tape
  • Double-sided Tape & Glue Dots

Embellishments & Trimmings

  • Pipe Cleaners (Chenille Stems)
  • Pom Poms & Craft Fluffs
  • Sequins & Rhinestones
  • Ribbons & Twine
  • Googly Eyes

If you have any of these materials you would be willing to donate, we would appreciate your support! Items can be sent with your child and delivered to the office or Mrs. Woods. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Ashley Woods at aswoods@cbe.ab.ca

Tsuut'ina Field Trips:

Glenbrook School received another Education Matters grant focusing on Indigenous Education. Through this grant, each class in the school was fortunate to tour the Tsuut'ina Cultural Museum. The students participated in a smudge and made friendship bracelets using a synthetic material to imitate sinew, which is the material Indigenous people used as string. They got to tour the museum with the knowledgeable Jonathon, who answered all their questions regarding chiefs, clothing, beading, language, tipis, and Tsuut'ina practices of living with the land.
