Dear Glenbrook Families,

As we welcome the month of October, we are reminded of the beauty of change all around us. The vibrant colours of autumn, cooler mornings, and shorter days encourage us to slow down, reflect, and appreciate the many opportunities for learning and growth that each new season brings. Our students have settled well into their routines, and it has been wonderful to see friendships forming, confidence growing, and classrooms filled with curiosity and excitement.

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day provides an important opportunity for us to honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, their families, and Indigenous communities. At Glenbrook School, we are committed to fostering understanding, respect, and meaningful learning about the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples. Through age-appropriate learning experiences and reflection, we encourage students to consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation through kindness, respect, and a commitment to learning.

As we move into October, we are grateful for the strong partnership between home and school that helps our students thrive. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. We look forward to a month filled with learning, connection, and opportunities to celebrate the many strengths that make Glenbrook such a special place to learn and grow.

Video Surveillance System Coming This School Year

Our school will have a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA) .

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and  law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.

Orange Shirt Day    

Glenbrook Orange Shirt DayAs part of our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, Glenbrook School will recognize Orange Shirt Day on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.   

 Orange Shirt Day is a time to recognize and honour the resilience, cultures, and lived experiences of Indigenous children, families, and residential school survivors. We also remember the children who never returned home and reflect on the lasting impacts of residential schools.

The orange shirt is a meaningful symbol that reminds us of the importance of truth, reconciliation, and the belief that Every Child Matters. We encourage all students and staff to wear an orange shirt on Tuesday, September 29. 

School Council Message: 

Hello Glenbrook Families,

What a celebration!  Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of our new Glenbrook School playground. It was wonderful to see families, students, staff and community members come together to celebrate the completion of a project that has taken years of planning, fundraising and hard work.

A special thank you goes to our Playground Coordinator, Michelle Ibbotson, whose leadership helped bring this project across the finish line. Our Parent Council members have also contributed countless hours, energy and resources to make the new playground a reality. Also, thank you to the school community as a whole for your persistent fundraising, donations and encouragement! 

We also want to recognize Jane Leopatra, our longtime Parent Council Chair, whose children have now moved on to other schools. Jane played an important role in getting this project started, including helping secure funding through Parks Foundation Calgary. Although she is no longer part of our current school community, the impact of her years of commitment and service can be seen every day in our new playground.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. This playground is a wonderful example of what can happen when a school community works together.

School Council is one of the best ways to stay connected to what is happening at Glenbrook. Come hear directly from our principal and teachers, learn more about what is happening in classrooms and across the school, ask questions, share your ideas, and find out how parents and caregivers can help support our students and school community.

You do not need to be a regular School Council member to attend. All Glenbrook parents and caregivers are welcome. We would love to have you join us!
